Certification Program

To better serve the needs of our customers and consumers, we have established the Insulbar® Certification Program. This program assists manufacturers in maintaining an effective insertion process and enables consumers to select the highest quality products utilizing the Insulbar thermal barrier system.

This program helps ensure that the Insulbar profiles are being properly inserted into their respective aluminum cavities. This will provide assurance to consumers that the manufacturers are properly utilizing the Insulbar thermal break and to the manufactures that their insertion equipment is working properly.

Our Quality Assurance Department is responsible for all of the testing done on the manufacturers' samples. This year, all the testing will be performed in December and the list of Certified Installers will be published on this web site at the start the New Year. The testing program will be performed annually with every company that wishes to remain a Certified Installer supplying samples for testing each year.

What exactly is a Certified Insulbar Installer?

In order to become a Certified Insulbar Installer, the manufacturer has to achieve a minimum shear strength value of 205lb/in. Since in the United States there is no minimum value on the shear strength of an aluminum composite containing Insulbar, the value of 205lbs/in originates from European standards.

In Europe, there are window standards with required shear resistance values. Under the guidance of the European Union for Technical Approvals in Building and Construction (UEAtc) and the Quality Assurance Associations for Aluminum Windows (RAL), a minimum shear resistance value of 24 N/mm was required for fenestration products. This value equates to a shear strength of 137 lbf/in as a minimum value for the shear strength of a window. Putting in a safety factor of approximately 50 percent takes the value up to the 205lbs/in for the shear strength of a window product.

For the Ensinger Certification program, we use a 100mm sample piece for testing. Therefore, the minimum value for a window manufacturer to become a Certified Insulbar Installer is 807lbf per 100mm sample. The reason for the 100mm sample is because the testing equipment is designed to handle sample pieces that are 100mm in length.

Becoming a Certified Insulbar Installer means that Ensinger, Inc. recognizes your company as a quality processor of our Insulbar thermal barrier system. Your company will be recommended to potential users of Insulbar as a certified supplier of fenestration products.

Our goal is to have all of our customers satisfy the minimum recommended shear strength value, and we pledge to assist in any way possible to help your company achieve this value. Whether that be in cavity design, insertion recommendations, or coming to your plant to help set up your insertion equipment, we will be there to provide whatever support we can to help in your continuing use of Insulbar®.
