Testing Program Guidelines

The following outlines the testing procedures for the Certification Program for installing Insulbar:

Requirements from Manufacturers:

  • 1. A minimum of 5 assembled sections that have completed the knurling and rolling processes must be sent to the attention of our Quality Assurance Department.

  • 2. The length of the sections is not to exceed 100 mm; we would prefer the sample pieces be under 100 mm or 3 15/16" in length. Each section should come from a different lineal to test for consistency across an entire production run. Samples should be taken from the beginning, middle and end of the run with the appropriate labels on each piece.

  • 3. Please send sections containing standard 14.6 mm Insulbar® or send the profile closest to the 14.6 mm in size and shape. The program is open for all customers using Insulbar, no matter which Insulbar profile they are using. However, you will only be compared to other manufacturers using the same profiles. Custom profiles are subject to different test criteria. All listed guidelines are for the testing program on the standard 14.6mm Insulbar.

  • 4. The horizontal spacing between the two Insulbar® profiles should be between 1/2" and 2". If you do not have a section in this range, please send the closest one that you are using.

  • 5. Along with the samples, please send a hard copy drawing of the aluminum cavity as well as one on a floppy diskette.

  • 6. Please send samples of any other composite section you would like tested. Send 5 pieces and the drawings of the aluminum cavities as described above. These results will not be included in the 14.6 mm comparison, but will be given to you along with any recommendations, if necessary.

The profiles will not be returned after the tests on them are performed. Testing will be done once a year.

Results for Manufactures:

  • 1. You will receive a test report showing your composite section shear values versus similar sections tested and where your values fall in this range. We will give a minimum acceptable value for your sections.

  • 2. Any recommendations that will improve the installation process or the design of the aluminum cavity will be made.

  • 3. Any extra profiles that you have sent will be tested and compared to similar profiles. For example, if you send a profile other than the standard 14.6 mm profile, it will be compared to similar profiles where applicable.

  • 4. The results from our tests will provide a check for your own testing and production equipment and a method to verify your test results.

  • 5. If the minimum recommended value is obtained and then maintained, you will be placed on the Certified Installers page for all to read about when visiting this web site.
